Altus innovations - switchgear repairs
projects
Switchgear repairs are undertaken by our staff on a regular basis for various clients. Breakdowns to switchboards, breakers and power distribution units are not only limited to ageing of equipment, but can occur through incorrectly fitted equipment, faulty items of plant, 3rd party damage and atmospheric degradation. Where Altus staff are successful in this field is by the use of their in-depth knowledge of switchgear operation and the expected end results thus allowing quick and accurate pinpointing of switchgear failures, not just after they happen, but prior to their occurence. This skill has ensured that the company is regularly involved with switchgear problem solving and repair work.
details
Various elements are assembled together during construction to create an operational switchboard. Usually, the design and operation of these elements are considered and developed prior to integration to ensure that the sum of the parts is reliable and adequate for many years of operation.
In our experience, we generally find that a mal-operation of switchgear can be pinpointed to the failure of one single item. It is the quick and accurate tracing of these component failures that ensures Altus staff continue to maintain an excellent reputation with, and the confidence of, our clients.
Another point of note that we consider is the ageing of switchgear. As can be seen from the above, some switchboards require more than just a minor fix - this example required a specialist process of dry ice cleaning to remove the heat baked dirt.
services
Our staff always issue a comprehensive field service report to our clients detailing their observations, remedial work undertaken and recommendations for the future as part of this service.
Included within our scope is thermographic survey condition monitoring, annual calibration, injection testing and Polarisation Index testing of switchgear to ensure that each client has the maximum information available to undertake a knowledgable decision with regard to the repair of their plant.
