A brewing firm in Nigeria requested assistance in commissioning a diesel generator to replace an older set. The replacement set at 2MW 11kV was of a higher rating than the previous one which required additional consideration of load sharing calibrations.
Prior to running, various auxiliary elements of the set had to be converted or replaced to suit the different system control voltages in the new position. After cable checks were completed on the new installed cabling, protection and alarm functions were proved and calibrated.
Running off-load, shutdowns and inhibits were commissioned, and then load was applied. The full load stop settings of the machine were then adjusted to suit the conditions.The system now comprised of four sets of differing full load rated machines, and as such, both the kW and kVAr load sharing systems were adjusted to suit the ratings of all generators.
Final system protection settings were adjusted, and the whole power system was then balanced and run as a stable and settled power supply package.
LV cable megger and HV cable pressure testing undertaken to determine condition of all installed cabling and connections.
Calibration and adjustment of sensors, switches and indicators to ensure confidence in system operations.
Interfacing of existing control systems to additional items of plant and equipment.
Commissioning of all power systems to ensure the complete power package is accurate, stable and evenly balanced across all load scenarios from no load through to full load.
