Altus innovations - installed power generation
project
3 off 1.75MVA 6.6kV diesel generators were installed on an offshore gas production platform. Due to a gradual shift of operational requirements, one of these machines became redundant, and eventually only two machines were used to supply platform power.
After a review of the system, it was agreed that the power generation system would have greater security if one of the two operational machines was transferred to the position of the original third machine. To undertake this change required a team of Altus staff working day and night to amend the switchboard controls and interlocking wiring and generator output cabling.
The task was further complicated by the fact the platform was at full production and power could not be lost at any point during the reconfiguration.
