The skills and combined experience of our personnel have been applied in a number of marine and offshore applications involving structures up to mobile offshore drilling unit size.
These project contents have included designing electrical installations for offshore structures, ships and semi-submersibles, involving diesel electric propulsion systems utilising standard AC generation and distribution systems, and DC propulsion and drilling equipment being supplied through switchboard mounted SCR packages.
The Borgland Dolphin was converted to a fifth generation Mobile Offshore Drilling Unit and was fitted with a unique RamRig hydraulic drilling package.
This project called for our staff to undertake the contract for the full electrical design.

Specify and design the rig replacement power system comprising 18MVA diesel generation package and complete distribution system.
Technical liaison, design development, factory testing and acceptance of major switchgear and propulsion & drilling drive manufacturers equipment.
Detailed electrical and system design and engineering for all rig systems including navigation, communications, fire and gas, safety & shutdown and interfaces to drilling systems.
Cable routing and segregation, compartment layouts, miscellaneous system philosophies, Ex equipment registers variations to order and as built documentation were all provided as part of the package.

A project support team was installed in the shipyard over a three year period to supply technical support from initial conceptual studies and tendering stages through procurement and production to final test and commissioning.
The design content ranged from system studies, calculations and philosophies to detailed production drawings Liaison was also provided throughout the project between customer, major equipment suppliers, the classification society and the statutory authorities.
