Altus innovations are very experienced in providing support for older control and instrumentation systems and equipment. We still support projects that have been running continuously for up to 30 years.
With projects such as these we find that there are a large number of items which have become obsolete, and that the original manufacturers are either unwilling to provide support, or worse, are now not in business. This is a field where our personnel take a strong initiative in providing clients with a cost effective solution.
When a client asks for support for an obsolete product, manufacturers tend to drive the client towards upgrading to the very latest in systems, when there is no real technical requirement to do so.
A typical project involved a faulty circuit breaker, which would not close on demand. Investigation revealed a faulty undervoltage trip unit, and the manufacturer was asked to provide a replacement. When the client was quoted thousands of pounds for a brand new circuit breaker, Altus staff replaced a capacitor and two diodes, total material cost of pennies, which solved the problem.

Our staff are aware that not every system component can be replaced on a like for like basis, and that obsolete components are very hard to source. We have repaired many components for clients rather than allow full system replacement due to one component failure.
Where a repair proves impossible, our staff can source compatible replacement components for control and instrumentation systems, and will guarantee the level of operation will be at least that of the previous component.
If there appears to be no other option than to upgrade to a manufacturers recommended system, Altus staff can advise which parts of your system can remain in place and which elements actually do not replaced, thus ensuring that you do not purchase unnecessary items of plant.
