Altus innovations - controls design
project
Altus innovations staff are capable of undertaking design of fluid, electrical or pneumatic systems to suit any client requirements. Full structural design is also undertaken to ensure that a complete design package can be produced, detailing all aspects of any project.
One contract was to produce detailed design of a mobile well control unit using stainless steel. This unit was required to be adaptable and portable such that any operator worldwide could hook the unit up to a well valve and be able to control the well from this position. The requirements for portability ensured that the overall space and weight budgets of the unit were severely limited, and the operational hydraulic pressure requirements dictated the choice of equipment installed.
To ensure simplicity of use the front panel controls valves, regulators and metering were to be kept to a minimum, and the hydraulic output was driven via a single retractable hose reel with the returns collected via a dual retractable hose reel.
All hydraulic reservoirs, filters pumps and regulators were to be enclosed within the unit, and the unit weight was to be minimised such that it could be transported via fork lift, or towed on it's own wheelbase.
details
To undertake projects to this level the design team requires detailed experience in material, fluid and weight characteristics to ensure that the end product satisfies the client's final operational requirements.
These projects require to encompass various skills and the management of resources to ensure that any critical element within the project has been risk assessed and is suitable for the project requirements.
Material modelling and calculations to ensure that structural design and load bearing characteristics are to the required client standard
services
Details control and instrumentation system design can be undertaken for any project and to any relevant required certification standards.
3D real space modelling techniques are used to check weight and space budgets, and in conjunction with material properties databases checks on structural integrity are undertaken.
Libraries of standard parts have been built up throughout projects, and can be used to reduce design completion time.
