Altus innovations - calibration

project

Altus staff have undertaken calibration activities in the control and instrumentation fields for clients with marine, industrial and offshore projects.

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Sea Crusader, chartered to a commercial operator for the first seven years, had been operating as the Ro-Ro "Celestine".

After the charter had been completed, the ship was dry docked for a re-fit prior to handover back to the RFA. The shipyard requested Altus staff assistance to bring the cargo, ballast and stability control system back to it's normal operational status. The system is designed to automatically adjust the ballast and fresh water levels in the double bottom and peak tanks to ensure stability of the ship during every loading condition.

This entailed a full survey of the system to ascertain the current status of the transducers, cabling, metering and control panel to determine which elements required recalibrating or replacement.

details

Safety requirements including confined space working put in place and strictly followed during all work.

Removal of sensors damaged beyond repair and replaced and re-cabled to suit.

Re-calibration of existing sensors and calibration check of new sensors to ensure correctly ranged.

Injection of control console metering and sensors, and adjustment to suit ensuring full system calibration and correct operation.

Liaison with shipyard, client and suppliers to ensure that all replacement elements of the system were correctly procured and delivered on time to ensure refit programme was not breached.

services

Altus staff will determine the current state of any control/monitoring system at present, and recommend the most effective course of action to ensure maximum operating efficiency of the system.
